Join ZenScope to build modern SaaS products that impact schools, businesses, and communities. You will develop scalable applications, APIs, integrations, and user experiences while working closely with the product team.
Key Responsibilities
- Independently debug and resolve production issues on live client environments, often under time pressure
- Own architecture-level decisions for assigned modules — not just implement features, but evaluate and improve how systems are designed
- Review code and system design choices made by junior engineers and interns, providing constructive technical guidance
- Act as the primary point of technical escalation when critical bugs or system issues arise with live client data
- Work directly with real client environments and data, ensuring reliability, security, and performance
- Collaborate with founders and product leads to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions
- Proactively identify technical debt, performance bottlenecks, and architectural risks before they become production issues
- Mentor junior team members (interns, freshers) on debugging practices, code quality, and system design thinking
- Take ownership of incidents end-to-end: diagnose root cause, implement fix, verify resolution, and document learnings
Requirements
- 6 months to 1 year of professional, hands-on experience in a live production environment (not limited to internships or academic/personal projects)
- Strong proficiency in backend development (Node.js/Express, or equivalent) and relational/NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, or Supabase)
- Demonstrated experience debugging real production issues — not just writing new code, but fixing what's already live and in use
- Solid understanding of system architecture, API design, and database schema design
- Comfortable working with live client data, understanding the responsibility and care that requires
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and communicate clearly when something breaks or needs escalation
- Strong fundamentals in Data Structures, Algorithms, and Object-Oriented Programming
- Prior exposure to AI-assisted development tools (Cursor, Claude, Copilot, or similar) is a strong plus
- Startup or fast-paced environment experience preferred, given the pace and ownership expected in this role.
Nice to Have
- Experience with a multi-tenant SaaS product, especially one with role-based access across different user types
- Familiarity with real-time systems (WebSockets, Socket.io, or similar) for live data updates
- Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows (GitHub Actions, Vercel, Railway, or similar)
- Basic understanding of AI/LLM integrations (working with APIs like OpenAI, Anthropic, or similar)
- Experience working directly with startup founders or in a small, fast-moving team where priorities shift quickly
- Familiarity with the EdTech space or building products for non-technical end users (school admins, teachers, parents)
- Contributions to open-source projects or a strong personal GitHub showing real, maintained code
- Basic understanding of system monitoring, logging, or error-tracking tools (e.g., Sentry, or similar)
Perks & Benefits
- Startup environment
- Rapid learning opportunities
- Real-world product ownership
- Career growth
